FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the goals of TOP Priority?
Our program is designed to help students learn, obtain exercise, engage socially, and have fun. TOP Priority is not a private school with an accredited curriculum of classes. Instead we provide a safe, supervised environment for students to engage in their online classes, complete homework, participate in other learning activities, and more.
What ages of students are accepted into TOP Priority?
Students in grades 1-9 will be accepted into TOP Priority. Enrollment will be limited to ensure compliance with governmental regulations, including social distancing.
What days does TOP Priority operate?
TOP Priority now operates only on Mondays.
How many students will be admitted into TOP Priority?
We plan to accommodate a maximum of 10 students per day. The children are divided into smaller groups or “teams” primarily based on age. The teams remain together for most of the day, participating in different classes and activity stations.
What safety precautions will be implemented?
TOP will comply with state and local regulations. TOP has been a leader in developing health and safety protocols for youth sports during the pandemic and will implement many of these procedures. Students who exhibit symptoms or feel ill (before or during the day) will be sent home.
Who is the staff?
TOP Priority staff is comprised of highly qualified personnel who care about the well-being of children. The staff-to-student ratio is expected to be 5:1 or less. Here are bios of our staff.
What other actions are taken to protect children?
As a leader in youth sports, TOP is well-versed in procedures designed to protect children. For TOP Priority, all adults interacting with children are subjected to background checks and must attend TOP’s training course on child safety. TOP has surveillance cameras throughout the facility to record activity during the day.
What is a typical day like?
Each day begins with Check-In that includes a temperature check and daily screening. Once cleared, students proceed to their designated areas. Our building is divided into two main areas that will be used by students throughout the day: Academics & Activities and Fitness & Recess.
Do students need to bring their own laptops?
Students are expected to bring their own electronic devices (e.g., Chromebook, laptop, phone) and ear buds or head sets to attend online classes, complete homework, and access other resources on the Internet. TOP has excellent WI-FI that is available to all campers, as well as lockable charging stations for cell phones.
How will students attend online classes at their primary schools?
Students are responsible for knowing their personal schedules for online classes at their respective schools. TOP Priority will requests schedules from all students to help facilitate attendance at such classes. At the present time, we currently do not know how this will work for different grades, teachers, classes, etc. in the school districts near TOP. But we will make quiet areas available for students to attend these classes. If they are participating in activities at TOP when online classes occur, they will be excused to attend their required classes.
What happens in Fitness & Recess?
Part of the day is similar to an all-sports camp that features a variety of fun activities and games designed to provide exercise. We also believe it’s important for students to have free time where they can do what they want (similar to recess). In some cases, we will encourage kids to make up new games with their own rules, etc. In general, we expect students to obtain more exercise than typically gained at school.
How does lunch work?
Students are assigned a time and place to eat lunch each day. They are not allowed to leave the premises. Students have the option of bringing their own lunch or purchasing a Meal Ticket. We do not include meals in our registration fees so parents have the option of packing lunches to save money or better manage their child’s diet. Microwaves are available to heat food. While TOP has a small kitchen, we do not have the full capabilities of a large school. Therefore, our Meal Ticket plan is simple and is offered as a convenience for those don’t want to pack lunches. We will offer items such as pizza, hotdogs/burgers, quesadillas, drinks, snacks and more. These items will also be available for students without Meal Tickets for cash purchases.
Can students bring snacks into the facility?
Yes, although peanut-products are not allowed in the building.
What are the hours of the program? Will there be early drop-off and after-care options?
Doors open for arrivals at 7:30 AM. Campers must be picked up no later than 4 pm. Late pickup is available for an extra charge ($10/day for pickups by 4:30).
Will Top of the Podium be closed due to inclement weather?
This is unlikely. In six years, TOP has only closed one time due to snow or other weather.
Is there a dress code?
Because students will participate in a lot of physical activity, we recommend wearing athletic or “gym” clothes to be comfortable. Clothes with zippers, sharp objects, belts or glitter are not allowed on mats (as well as watches and jewelry). Otherwise, we do not have a dress code but reserve the right to prohibit offensive shirts, hats, etc.
Is there a Code of Conduct?
Yes. Students must respect the Supervisors, Leaders, and Assistants at all times. Foul language, unsportsmanlike behavior, bullying, etc. will not be tolerated. Campers who continually disturb the group (or specific individuals) will be warned before being required to sit out of activities. If necessary, campers may be expelled due to misbehavior. In all such instances, we will communicate with parents/guardians so there are no surprises.
What is the cost, and how do I reserve my spot?
Registration fees are comparable to other quality day camp or daycare providers even though we have an incredible, state-of-the-art facility! The exact fee depends on the number of days of attendance per week, as well as optional items such as early drop-off/late pickup and Meal Plans. All fees are listed on the Registration link. To register, you reserve your spot by making a $100 deposit per camper. This will be applied to your first registration payment when the school year begins.
