MAT SAVVY'S "WINTER SCRAMBLEFEST"
DECEMBER 29, 2018
How SCRAMBLEFEST Works (PLEASE READ!)
This is not a traditional wrestling tournament but rather an innovative format that allows competitors to maximize their time on the mat. Wrestlers seek out opponents at their age/weight and set up bouts with them. Opponents can agree on any style (e.g., folkstyle, freestyle, greco) and determine whatever length of bout they prefer. For example, two wrestlers can agree on a one-period, 5 minute bout....or 3 two-minute periods....or whatever. They then find an open spot on the mat and begin their match (there are no referees). Once finished, they log in the results at the designated place and can immediately look for new opponents.
In the 6th-thru-Open Divisions, wrestlers who compete for 60 minutes will earn a gold medal (regardless of match results). 50 and 25 minutes of competition qualify for a silver and bronze medal, respectively. For K-5 division, the times are 60, 45 and 25, respectively. Additional medals may be awarded in categories like most wins, points scored, etc. However, the primary goal is to obtain mat time against numerous opponents!
For more information, watch the accompanying video and see Tournament Flier on this page.
Fees are $25 if registering online before midnight on December 28, otherwise $30 walk-in at door. The number of participants will be capped, so don't delay in registering (in other words, walk-ins may not be accepted).
