SAFETY UPDATE: TOP follows the guidelines in Operation Safe Mat Return which goes "over and above" state and local health regulations. For those who are extra concerned, we encourage participants to register with members of the same household such as parents or siblings or trusted, responsible friends. If camps are cancelled for any reason, full refunds will be offered.
Our newest camp is an innovative approach to help wrestlers become proficient and master techniques. Over a fairly intense two-day period, wrestlers will learn and drill 30 techniques to turn and pin opponents resulting from the capture of a wrist. They will also learn different ways to capture wrists and develop plans to improve grip and arm strength.
More advanced wrestlers are likely to show proficiency in all techniques at the end of this camp, whereas less experienced wrestlers will still be getting down the fundamentals. Either way, we understand that continual refinement and reinforcement is essential to mastering these techniques and implementing them against tougher opponents in real matches.
Therefore, campers are invited to return (at no charge) to any or all of the bi-weekly WD-30 Certification sessions that will take place throughout the remainder of the summer and fall. Ultimately, to become certified, wrestlers must demonstrate proficiency to independent judges and successfully execute various moves in matches.
This camp is geared towards high schoolers and middle schoolers with experience and a strong desire to improve. Younger wrestlers may be accepted on an exception basis. The camp is led by TOP's Tom Houck with assistance from local high school coaches.
The daily schedule is expected to approximate the following:
10:00-10:30 Arrival Time
10:30-12:00 Introduction and Wrestling Session #1
12:45-1:15 Dodgeball/Competitive Games
1:15-2:45 Wrestling Session #2
2:45-3:30 Afternoon Break
3:30-5:00 Film Study/Wrestling Session #3
Fees for this camp are $175 and include the camp plus free admission to all reinforcement sessions throughout the summer and fall. There is also a complimentary review session on July 9 for all campers. Participants will bring their own lunches. Refund policy is stated in the 2021 Camp Guide.
