RIVER BEND WRESTLING
The 2017-2018 Season is Underway!
Last year, we formed the first ever River Bend Wrestling Team and 7 Ravens are now wrestling for Potomac Falls! This year, we are combining with Sterling Middle School, and the season is off to a great start.
The season runs from November through February. There are wrestlers with experience on the team, but we also expect a lot of brand new wrestlers. So it's a fantastic opportunity to join the "world's oldest sport" and determine if it's an activity you may want to continue at Potomac Falls.
We are pleased that long-time Sterling Wrestling Club coach Don Griffith returns to lead the team this season. He will be assisted by two young studs: Batchka Zulkhuu (2012 state champ at Pot Falls and All-American in college) and Garrett Griffith (currently wrestling for George Mason University).
The team practices twice a week: Monday at Top of the Podium (7:45-9:15) and Thursdays from 7-8:30 pm at Potomac Falls High School.
Our team competes in the Middle School division of the popular Dulles Duals. These events are held at Top of the Podium on Saturdays throughout the season. We also compete in TOP's Winter Wrestling Series on other Saturdays. Our uniforms consist of fight shorts and compression shirts! We also hope to participate in one or more meets at local high schools, including Potomac Falls, in conjunction with high school varsity matches.
The required equipment for wrestling is a headgear and wrestling shoes. We encourage you to purchase your equipment at TOP OF THE PODIUM Wrestling Center in Sterling. TOP is a local, 501(c)3 nonprofit and prices are usually lower than big box stores. Click here for hours.
Similar to other sports, the team provides each wrestler with a school compression shirt for competition, but wrestlers will supply their own fight shorts (coaches will provide more information on this).
To register for the River Bend team, you must join a local youth wrestling club. We are proud to affiliate with Eastern Loudoun Wrestling Club that serves the Ashburn and Sterling areas. Click here for more information about ELWC.
