President's DAy "TAG TEAM" SHOWDOWN
CLICK HERE for a video explanation of this unique event!
Note: We will begin the time slots later in the day (probably afternoon) and continue through the evening so that more kids can participate in this event (since it's on a Monday).
This is a new event for this season to end the WWS season on a unique and hopefully fun note.
Basically, two wrestlers (ideally teammates or friends of roughly the same age/weight) form a team. When registering, they must announce their preference for a teammate (both persons must say they want to do it). Assuming we can match them up against other teams appropriately, they will compete together as a team.
If you don't list a preferred teammate, no worries, we assign a teammate. Whenever possible, we will assign a person from the same club. In all cases, when TOP assigns teams, we will do our best to put together teams to create competitive brackets. All teams must be approved by TOP---the biggest variable is being able to pair them up against other teams of similar age/weight.
At this event, your team will compete against other teams in traditional wrestling matches. But here’s the twist—the bouts (and even periods) are intermixed with no breaks. Here’s an example:
Red Team wrestlers A and B compete against Green Team wrestlers A and B
A1 vs. B1 – first period (neutral)
A2 vs. B2 – first period (neutral)
A1 vs. B1 -- second period
A2 vs. B2 -- second period
A1 vs. B1 -- third period
A2 vs. B2 -- third period
In the second period, Team Red will start on the top position. In the third period, Team Green is on top.
As soon as the above sequence is done, each wrestler repeats the sequence against the other opponent. So each participant basically wrestles two matches in a row, although there is a break between each period. Points are cumulative, so the final score might be 35-31 or whatever. Pins count for 5 points (only one per period)----this is contrast to what the video explanation states.
The team with the most point wins after the schedule rounds wins the Tag Team contest. Teams will be put in traditional brackets or compete in a round robin format.
